Writing and Speaking for Shy Self Promoters
Nick Osborne writes about how challenging it is for professionals to promote themselves. One solution he suggests is article writing. SInce I am a big fan of writing as a means to market your private practice, I definitely agree with him.
However, I also think public speaking is a key way to market your private practice successfully. Both writing articles and speaking are the methods I have used most successfully to attract clients quickly.
Both put you in front of a lot of people at one time and both set you up as an expert in your field. They can be time consuming, but very rewarding methods of marketing your practice.
Both require a strategy if you want them to attract clients successfully though. So if you use either of these methods, make sure you know how to implement them effectively as a marketing tool and that you have a plan of action.
Nick provides some useful tips on writing articles. You might want to check it out. You can also read about article writing by clicking on the following links:

Your tips and encouragement to write articles and do public speaking are invaluable to me and I’m pleased to say that I’ve been doing both!
Fortunately, I’ve got a background in journalism and media, so writing comes very naturally to me and I believe that it is paying off in some ways. I’ve added a number of my articles to my website and more will be added in time.
I must admit that I’m ‘eating my words’ now, as I’d always declared that I’d NEVER do public speaking (I can sing and do music just fine, but speaking? YIKES!) or be on TV. But, alas, I’ve been speaking for a few years now and have been on TV two years in a row! LOL
I’d like to remind people, too, that one may not see results immediately — from giving a talk or being on telly — but we never know what special seeds we’ve planted … that will sprout and bear fruit at some point and also leave a powerful impact on someone.
Thank you so much for your valuable tips and encouragement! It’s not easy for one who’s so right-brained to have to do marketing and PR, etc., but I’m grateful, too, to have an agent who’s now helping me.
Love & Light,
Juliet
